Detroit — In front of a loud, festive, octopus-tossing crowd for a game against their greatest all-time rival, the Red Wings lost in overtime, 3-2, Saturday night.
As has so often been the case the past the past two seasons, a defensive miscue led to the Wings’ demise.
Mike Green, enjoying a good offensive season, turned over the puck directly to the Canadiens three minutes into the overtime, and it ended up in the back of the net, behind Petr Mrazek, who was blameless.
It was Alex Galchenyuk’s 17th goal of the season.
The Wings got goals from Frans Nielsen and Dylan Larkin.
