A two-man advantage pumped life into the Detroit Red Wings.
A slow start saw them trailing the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday at Little Caesars Arena late in regulation. When a power play materialized with 2 minutes 56 seconds to go, the Wings pulled Jimmy Howard and were rewarded when Justin Abdelkader knocked the puck into an open net with 1 minute 25 seconds left on the clock.
But Marco Scandella beat the overtime horn to hand Detroit a 3-2 loss.
Jonathan Ericsson scored in the second period to tie the game, but the Sabres retook the lead during a power play.
