At last, Detroit Red Wings power play surges

The past two games serve as a demonstration of just how much difference a functional power play makes.

The Detroit Red Wings host the Buffalo Sabres on Monday riding a two-game winning streak helped by a suddenly productive power play. After droughts that went so long it boggled the mind, the Wings have converted in three of their past four games, including twice each in victories against Colorado and Arizona.

“You need these goals to get you going in a certain point of a game,” Tomas Tatar said after Saturday's 5-1 rout. “I feel like last few games, power play is working which is huge and that is why we are getting points.
