The Detroit Red Wings played to their history in the home opener, evoking icons of the past before introducing the players trying to make this a competitive season.

Anthony Mantha - one of the cornerstones of the rebuild - came through with a career night, scoring four goals Sunday at Little Caesars Arena to lead the Wings past the Dallas Stars, 4-3.

Jonathan Bernier made 20 saves to help the Wings go 2-0 to start the season.
