Early in the 2019-20 season, mere days before the brothers seemed destined to square off for the first time, Evgeny answered a set of 11 questions about his brother for The Athletic. This week, Andrei answered the same 11 about Evgeny.
Their responses are a window into their two personalities, their childhood and why the chance to face each other in the NHL would mean so much to them both.
What’s his best hockey skill?
Evgeny: I would say that his separating with other players is probably skating, but I think also hockey IQ, he’s really smart and he knows how to play in give-and-go and little areas, and cycle the puck, and skill game, but also he has a weapon as a shot and his speed … he takes pucks to the net with his ability to skate, and just … cut to the net.
