If the Philadelphia 76ers weren't serious contenders in the Eastern Conference before, they are now.
The Sixers, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, have agreed to acquire disgruntled four-time All-Star forward Jimmy Butler from the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Minnesota reportedly will receive forwards Robert Covington and Dario Saric, guard Jerryd Bayless and a 2022 second-round pick for Butler and forward Justin Patton.
Butler joins center Joel Embiid and point guard Ben Simmons to form a star trio for a Sixers team competing with Boston, Toronto and Milwaukee for supremacy in the East.
Reports indicate the Sixers and Butler, 29, will agree on a long-term extension this summer, after Butler opts out of the final year of his contract.
