Jovan Mooring, a hard-nosed defensive standout at UNLV, was selected in the first round by the Grand Rapids Drive on Saturday in the NBA G League draft.
Mooring, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound Chicago native, played two seasons with the Runnin' Rebels, averaging 13.8 points a game last season and 12-6 in 2016-17. In those two seasons the point guard also averaged 3.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds.
He was the 13th pick overall. The Drive also selected Micah Seaborn from Monmouth with the 19th pick in the first round.
