When the Detroit Pistons hired Dwane Casey they hoped he would do for the Pistons what he did for Toronto. The Raptors were consistently Eastern Conference contenders and if LeBron James didn’t exist, Casey might even have a title.
Casey was fired for being unable to get over the LeBron hump even though he had just won Coach of the Year. LeBron bolted for Los Angeles and Toronto promptly nabbed Kawhi Leonard and won the championship under Casey’s former assistant just to rub salt in the wound.
Though Casey doesn’t get a ring for Toronto’s championship, he was a big part of how they got there.
