Beard: Bounces need to go Pistons’ way for move

Auburn Hills — So far, there’s no “For Sale” sign in front of The Palace, and no one is packing any boxes for a move downtown.

Not yet, at least.

During the past year, there’s been a courtship between Tom Gores’ Platinum Equity group, which owns the Pistons, and the Ilitch family.

The talk has centered on the possibility of the Pistons moving to downtown Detroit to join the Red Wings in Little Caesars Arena, which is scheduled to open in 2017.

At Pistons media day, Gores said he is building a relationship with the Ilitch family, led by Mike and Marian Ilitch — who own the Tigers and Red Wings — and their son Chris, president of Ilitch Holdings, Inc.
