We joked on Wednesday that introductory press conferences tend to be glorified pep rallies. The new coach comes in, promises that he’ll bring the team to relevancy and get them to a championship as soon as possible. Then we all go home and feel a lot better about ourselves.
While there was certainly some of that on Wednesday, it was actually surprisingly devoid of empty promises. Patricia didn’t guarantee to bring a Super Bowl to Detroit or even set a specific goal for the 2018 Lions team. He was clearly just there to introduce himself and answer whatever questions were thrown his way.
