OAKLAND, Calif. -- First they signed LeGarrette Blount, and then they drafted Kerryon Johnson. With that, it appeared Ameer Abdullah's days in Detroit were numbered.
Not so fast, my friends.
The fourth-year running back was one of the few bright spots for the Lions in a 16-10 loss on Friday night in their exhibition opener against the Raiders at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. He started at kick returner and punt returner, plus scored Detroit's first touchdown on a 1-yard plunge into the end zone.
He had an assist on his own score, too, showing great footwork and concentration to gather himself for a 7-yard catch at the pylon.
