Pistons’ Van Gundy catching up on coaching end of job

Stan Van Gundy is back in coaching mode already and he finds it tough taking time off.

The Detroit Pistons coach and president of basketball operations has roughly six weeks before training camp starts and he’s ready to go.

“I took three months off almost from the coaching part of it to do player personnel,’’ Van Gundy said recently on the “Lowe Post’’ podcast. “Now you’re trying to catch up on the coaching end of it. It’s a little tougher to get time off, but it will get some off (in August).’’

From the middle of April to the middle of July, Van Gundy was focused on the Pistons’ roster, player personnel, watching film of potential draft picks and watching film of potential free-agent acquisitions.
