I couldn’t bring myself to shake Glover Quin’s hand at the end of the season. I didn’t want to say goodbye, and I didn’t want to offend a proud player by presuming too much.
The end of a professional athlete’s tenure with a team can be predictable. It either comes down to money or performance, or both. When it’s a virtual certainty a player is leaving, and I’ve appreciated his professionalism in dealing with reporters, I often shake his hand and thank him.
