Abullah’s promotion: The circumstances of why it happened don’t matter as much as the fact that rookie Ameer Abdullah is taking over as the No. 1 tailback.
Joique Bell is out with an ankle injury. Abdullah moves up as the starter with another rookie, Zach Zenner, likely to take over the backup in running situations.
On merit, Abdullah has produced enough in his limited opportunities in the first three games to show he is ready for a bigger role in the offense.
