As much as head coach Jim Caldwell appreciates the athleticism and body control Calvin Johnson displays when he soars through the air to catch a pass in one of the Lions’ training-camp practices, he wants him to save those for the regular season.
The practice field is no place to risk being injured.

Johnson made one of his highlight-reel catches on the opening day of camp Monday, and he knew he was in trouble before he got up to trot back to the huddle. He didn’t have to wait to get a lecture from Caldwell in the meeting room.
