NOTEBOOK: Abdullah, Hunt make most of first plays

First touches couldn’t have produced much better results for two Lions who came from vastly different backgrounds to make their presence felt in the Lions’ season-opening loss at San Diego.

Rookie running back Ameer Abdullah turned his first regular-season carry into a 24-yard touchdown run on the Lions’ first possession. It was the kind of play the Lions envisioned Abdullah making when they drafted him in the second round.

On the other side of the ball, defensive end Phillip Hunt sacked quarterback Philip Rivers on the Chargers’ first possession. It was Hunt’s first play as a Lion, and something the Lions envisioned him making when they kept him on the 53-player roster in the final cut.
