DETROIT -- It’s been all about the pace.
That’s been one of the big, noticeable things for the Detroit Lions over the past three weeks, through training camp and then during the first two preseason games. After playing with a much slower, deliberate tempo under former offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, the Lions clearly want to find a way to play faster this season.
This started at midseason in 2015, when Jim Bob Cooter replaced Lombardi as coordinator. Cooter installed part of his offensive plan then. With a full offseason to implement his plan, he and Matthew Stafford deconstructed and rebuilt the entire offense before installing it this spring and again during training camp.
