Matt Patricia officially hired as Detroit Lions head coach

MINNEAPOLIS -- First he wanted to be a pilot, and then he mulled the military. He went to school to become a rocket scientist, and then was offered a job maintaining nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers that would have paid him $100,000. He turned it down.

Matt Patricia wanted to coach football, you see. Even if it was at Amherst College. Even if it only paid $10,000.

He just wanted to coach some ball.

And on Monday, the Detroit Lions made the worst-kept secret in the NFL official. They want Patricia to do it for them, finalizing a deal that will make him the 27th head coach in franchise history.
