Matt Patricia explains why Lions QB Matthew Stafford sits vs. Texans

HOUSTON — Two strong days of practice after a six-day layoff apparently was all that Detroit Lions coach Matt Patricia needed to feel starting quarterback Matthew Stafford is in a good place as he gets ready for the regular season.

Patricia said he decided not to play Stafford in Saturday’s 30-23 preseason loss to the Houston Texans because of the work his starting quarterback got in joint practices with the Texans last week.
