Lions will have an almost entirely new defensive staff under Matt Patricia

ALLEN PARK -- Matt Patricia can't officially accept the Detroit Lions' head coaching job for another 13 days, and he's already overhauling the defensive staff.

Linebackers coach Bill Sheridan and safeties coach Alan Williams have been told they will not return, according to reporting from the Detroit News at the Senior Bowl. That's in addition to coordinator Teryl Austin, who already took the same job in Cincinnati, and defensive line coach Kris Kocurek, who landed in Miami.

The exodus leaves just cornerbacks coach Tony Oden and quality control coach Steven Williams on the defensive staff, along with George Godsey, who handled special projects last year.
