Lions sign WR Austin Willis to futures deal

Bob Quinn made his first signing as Detroit Lions general manager Thursday, inking wide receiver/return man Austin Willis to a futures contract.

Willis, from Emporia State, signed as an undrafted free agent with the Oakland Raiders last spring but was cut during training camp.

He caught on a few days later with the Buffalo Bills, but was waived before final cuts.

Willis initially ran track at Emporia State, but led the football team with 757 yards receiving and six touchdowns on 56 catches as a senior.

The Lions previously signed five practice-squad players from this season to futures deals: Receivers Corey Washington and Ryan Spadola, offensive tackle Tyrus Thompson, tight end Casey Pierce and linebacker Khaseem Greene.
