Golden Tate on Donald Trump's latest anthem comments: 'Doesn't surprise me'

ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions were tight-lipped after practice Thursday when it came to questions about the league's new anthem policy. In Golden Tate's case, literally so.

The receiver was asked about President Donald Trump's remarks on Fox News, that players who violate the new anthem policy should leave the country. "You have to stand proudly for the national anthem or you shouldn't be playing," Trump said. "You shouldn't be there. Maybe you shouldn't be in the country."

Tate grew visibly upset when told of the quote, appeared to grind his teeth, then eventually murmured: "Doesn't surprise me.
