Eli Harold 'respects' Detroit Lions for not asking about anthem protests

Eli Harold got his fill of national anthem questions in San Francisco, so the Detroit Lions' newest pass rusher was happy to say his new team never even broached the topic when it acquired him in a trade last week from the 49ers.

"They didn’t ask me anything about that and I respect them for not asking me," Harold said Tuesday. "And I feel like that says a lot. They’re focused on ball, just like I am."

Harold has said he will not kneel during the playing of the anthem this season.

He was among the first NFL players to protest during the song back in 2016, when he first raised a fist and later joined teammates Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid in taking a knee to protest social injustice.
