DK Metcalf missed Olympics; 1 trainer thinks Calvin Johnson would have been 'competitive with Usain Bolt'

Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf fell short in his bid to make the Olympic trials Sunday, when he ran an impressive 10.36 100-meter dash that placed 15 out of 17 competitors at the USA Track and Field Golden Games.

Metcalf's showing was roundly praised on social media, a football star with limited track background running with some of the top sprinters in the world. And it reminded me of a conversation I had earlier this spring with Calvin Johnson's former trainer, who remains convinced the ex-Detroit Lions receiver could have qualified for the Olympics.

"His running style, if he actually ran track, he would be competitive with Usain Bolt," said Tom Bender, the longtime private trainer and founder of Bender Performance.
