Detroit Lions trade Golden Tate to Eagles for 2019 3rd-round pick

For once, Golden Tate’s instincts failed him.

Less than 24 hours after Tate said he expected to finish the season in Detroit, the Lions traded their leading receiver to the Philadelphia Eagles at Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline for a third-round pick.

“It’s been real DETROIT!” Tate tweeted. “I’ll love ya forever. Philly Philly let’s get it!!”

Tate did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment from the Free Press on Tuesday.

Tate, 30, was in the final season of a five-year deal he signed with the Lions in 2014, and he told the Free Press on Monday that he still was optimistic he would sign an extension to stay in Detroit this year.
