Detroit Lions rookie DT Jashon Cornell suffers 'pretty serious' Achilles injury

The Detroit Lions' already-thin defensive line took a hit Tuesday when rookie Jashon Cornell suffered what coach Matt Patricia called a "pretty serious" leg injury.

Cornell, a seventh-round pick out of Ohio State, injured his left Achilles tendon during a one-on-one pass-rushing drill near the end of practice. He screamed in pain as he fell to the ground while making a move on guard Kenny Wiggins.

Trainers spent a few minutes examining Cornell's ankle and calf, and Cornell had to be helped to his feet and carted off the field.

"We’re getting with the doctors now to figure out exactly what that looks like but that was a pretty severe injury from that standpoint," Patricia said.
