Danny Amendola didn’t watch Andrew Luck’s news conference Saturday, when the 29-year-old four-time Pro Bowl quarterback announced his retirement from the NFL because of an endless cycle of rehab and pain that he said drained his desire to play the game.

Amendola has never felt his love for football wane, but the Lions receiver still can relate to the mental and physical fatigue Luck said he endured during aprocess that can be both isolating and exhausting.
