Detroit Lions' QB-RB-WR 'triplets' may rank higher than you think

The "triplets" concept in the NFL – a team's lead quarterback, running back and wide receiver – was popularized in the 1990s by the Dallas Cowboys. Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin were the figureheads of three Super Bowl title teams.

Nowadays, the best triplet combo is unofficially considered to come out of Pittsburgh, where veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is joined by Le'Veon Bell (Michigan State) and Antonio Brown (Central Michigan).

But this hasn't translated into overall team success yet like it did in Dallas. Since 2014, when both Bell and Brown were first-team All-Pros, the Steelers have gone 45-19 in the regular season but just 3-4 in the playoffs and haven't reached a Super Bowl.
