Da'Shawn Hand is headed to injured reserve for the fourth straight season.
The Detroit Lions placed Hand and quarterback Tim Boyle on IR Thursday, and re-signed tight end Darren Fells and safety Dean Marlowe.
Hand suffered a groin injury in practice Aug. 10 that Lions coach Dan Campbell said last week "ended up being a little more than we thought it would be." He has not practiced since, and now must sit out at least the first three games of the season.
Hand, who missed three games with a groin injury last year, suffered a season-ending ankle last December.
