Like everyone else, new Detroit Lions offensive lineman Halapoulivaati Vaitai is trying to negotiate the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic. But he’s also trying to do it while he and his wife, Caitlin, tend to their newborn daughter.

Sophia Vaitai was born Saturday and weighed 9 pounds, 3 ounces. The couple also has a son, 20-month-old Vaati.

In a conference call with Detroit reporters Wednesday, Vaitai described a surreal experience at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, where Sophia was born.
