ANGLETON, Texas — Every day when he got home from work, Roland Hayes was greeted with the same request: “Dad, come throw the ball to me.”
And every day, Roland Hayes obliged.
Hayes and his son, Detroit Lions safety Quandre Diggs, would head to the backyard behind their one-story brick home in the small Texas town of Angleton, about 45 minutes south of Houston.
Hayes would stand on one side of the house, ball in hand, as Diggs would sprint from behind the home into the open yard.
