5 things to watch: Lions could face Tom Brady and Josh Gordon without Darius Slay

ALLEN PARK -- After dropping the first two games of the Matt Patricia era, the Detroit Lions are trying to avoid their first 0-3 start since 2015. But they'll have to knock off the New England Patriots to do it.

Here are five things to watch as Detroit hits the practice field Wednesday to begin preparations for the prime-time showdown on Sunday night at Ford Field.

The pass defense could be in trouble. Darius Slay went down with a brain injury last week against San Francisco, and will have to gain clearance from an independent neurologist to return to the field.
