Exactly two minutes into Nikola Jokic’s postgame press conference, rookie Bones Hyland burst into the media room at Ball Arena to share a message.
He chanted “M-V-P” three times, standing only a few feet away from the actual one.
Jokic’s mammoth performance against the Pelicans on Sunday night was a legendary close to a game the Nuggets probably shouldn’t have won. Not when they were trailing by 11 points with barely three minutes left in the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter and overtime, Jokic hammered the Pelicans for 30 of his 46 points. Throughout the onslaught, he missed one shot, draining 10 of his 11 attempts.
