Nikola Jokic’s greatest statistical season will not be decorated with the commensurate laurels.
Despite stamping himself as the third player and first center in NBA history to average a triple-double in a season, Jokic fell short of a fourth career MVP trophy, according to a report by ESPN’s Shams Charania. The 30-year-old Nuggets big man and Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo will be announced Wednesday night as runners-up to Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who won the award for the first time.
Jokic was trying to join LeBron James and Bill Russell as the only players to win four MVPs in five years.
