The Broncos are finalizing a deal to hire long-time NFL defensive coordinator Vic Fangio as their 14th full-time head coach, according to a league source. The contract is for four years with a team option for the fifth season.
Fangio was John Elway’s choice among five candidates interviewed from Jan. 2-7 and will be the Broncos’ fourth coach in six years. The other finalist was Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak.
Fangio, 60, has not been a head coach at any level, but does have 32 years of NFL experience, including 19 as a defensive coordinator.
