Solomon Patton waived by Broncos; Denver signs rookie TE Dan Light

The Broncos claimed Solomon Patton off waivers in May, hoping his speed and versatility on special teams could give them a dual-threat receiver.

But his hot start ended Friday, when the Broncos waived the second-year player and signed rookie tight end Dan Light.

Patton, a 5-foot-9 receiver who was working on punt and kickoff returns impressed early in training camp, showing his speed and hauling in some acrobatic catches.

He was listed as the second and third punt and kick returner, respectively, on the Broncos' first depth chart. But he lost traction on punt returns after he muffed one in the Broncos' preseason opener in Seattle.
