Rockies blow early lead to Orioles, lose sixth consecutive game

BALTIMORE — The Rockies are struggling mightily in the school of hard knocks.

Despite a solid start from right-hander Chris Flexen, despite an early 2-0 lead, and despite an eighth-inning rally, the Rockies once again failed the test. They fell, 5-4 to the Orioles Saturday night before a raucous sellout crowd of 42,535 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

The Rockies, relying more and more on young players, have dropped six consecutive games and have lost 10 straight on the road.

Flexen, throwing a killer changeup, was excellent through his first five innings. He struck out a season-high seven — getting strike threes on six changeups — and he yielding just one unearned run.
