NFLPA files grievance challenging league’s new national anthem policy

The NFL Players Association filed a grievance Tuesday on behalf of its players challenging the league’s new anthem policy.

On May 24, NFL owners approved a policy requiring players and league personnel to stand for the anthem if on the sideline but provided an option to remain in the locker room. Individual clubs were also given the power to set their own polices.

Last year, the anthem has become a lighting-rod topic when players around the league — including 32 from the Broncos before their game at Buffalo — knelt for the anthem in protest after President Trump’s comments that players should be “fired,” for not observing the anthem.
