“I thought it was a no-call”: Chargers dispute game-changing pass interference penalty, react to Broncos QB Drew Lock’s debut

Austin Ekeler stood dumbfounded in the visiting locker room at Mile High.

A Colorado homecoming for the Chargers running back and Eaton native was squashed in heartbreaking fashion. All it took was 9 seconds. One moment, the Broncos faced first-and-10 from their own 28. A few moments later, Brandon McManus drilled a 53-yard field goal to win it — 23-20.

“We were on the bench sitting like, ‘What the heck just happened?’ It was a blindside,” Ekeler said. “I was looking at the guys like, ‘We just lost the game?’”

One defensive pass interference call changed everything.
