Denver Broncos position preview: Some new faces, but same standard for defensive backs

Last year, the Broncos’ secondary had to move on without strong safety T.J. Ward, who was released after the preseason.

This year, the secondary will move on without cornerback Aqib Talib, who was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in March.

But don’t tell the Broncos that expectations entering training camp this week have changed.

“The standard and the mind-set stays the same,” said Justin Simmons, who replaced Ward and made 63 tackles.

Said defensive backs coach Marcus Robertson: “The key thing is, we’ve got a lot of guys who know how it should be done, and that’s how we’re going to do it.
