David Burton placed on IR; Broncos sign safety Shaun Prater

David Bruton played 62 snaps on a broken right leg on Sunday. He somehow beat the pain for three hours. But he couldn't beat the calendar.

Needing depth at their depleted safety position, the Broncos placed Bruton on season-ending injured reserve on Tuesday and signed Shaun Prater.

Bruton broke his right fibula when he collided with cornerback Aqib Talib in the first quarter Sunday at Pittsburgh. He had no idea his fibula was fractured, believing it was just a bruise. He finished the game, and teammates helped him to the locker room.
