Broncos president/CEO Joe Ellis: “Nothing has changed” in process to find Pat Bowlen’s successor

Broncos president/CEO Joe Ellis said Monday the succession plan to replace owner Pat Bowlen, who died last Thursday, remains unchanged.

“I’m going to be careful and be sensitive to the family — it’s a tough time for them,” Ellis said during a news conference. “I would just tell you that nothing has changed.”

As his Alzheimer’s progressed, Bowlen transferred control of the Broncos in 2014 to Ellis, team counsel Rich Slivka and Denver attorney Mary Kelly. Bowlen tasked the trustees with selecting the next controlling owner and gave them the responsibility to put the team up for sale if none of Bowlen’s children were determined to be qualified.
