Broncos expect instant impact from new defensive lineman D.J. Jones

There was a direct correlation between the Broncos’ rush defense and losing games last year. When allowing at least 100 yards rushing, they were 2-8 and ended up 15th in the NFL with a 111.3-yard average.

Enter D.J. Jones.

Jones, who played his first six seasons with San Francisco, signed his three-year, $30 million contract with the Broncos on Wednesday to replace Shelby Harris, who was sent to Seattle in the Russell Wilson trade.

Among Jones’ career-best 56 tackles last year, 34 were in the run game as he was able to use his 6-foot, 305-pound frame to shed blocks and his athleticism, including a swim move, to reach the backfield.
