Broncos comeback kicked aside by Bears in Denver’s first home opener loss since 2011

Welcome to The Vic Fangio Era, Denver, where anything goes.

Playing for the win at home instead of the overtime with 31 seconds to go. An ill-timed defensive penalty by one of your best players.

And a 53-yard field goal, as time expires, that breaks your heart.

The Broncos fell to Chicago, 16-14, as Bears kicker Eddy Pinerio belted a 53-yarder as time expired, capping an improbable six-play, 40-yard drive with 31 seconds to go, and an even more improbable home opening defeat for Denver.

Fangio, Denver’s first-year coach, won over the 74,254 at the newly named Empower Field at Mile High after quarterback Joe Flacco broke the home side’s red-zone blues by lofting a 7-yard touchdown pass to Emmanuel Sanders in the late going.
