Broncos Briefs: After interviewing for Denver’s top job, Chuck Pagano returns as Chicago’s defensive coordinator

In January, Chuck Pagano was the first head-coaching candidate interviewed by Broncos general manager John Elway. A native of Boulder who played at Wyoming, joining the Broncos would have united Pagano and his favorite childhood team.

“Oh yeah, that was my team growing up — the ‘Orange Crush’ defense,” Pagano said. “They were dominant back then.”

The Broncos, though, hired Vic Fangio and the Chicago Bears hired Pagano to replace Fangio as defensive coordinator. They will call plays for their respective defenses on Sunday.

Pagano consulted at the NFL office last year after six years as Indianapolis’ coach.
