Anatomy of a meltdown: How the Broncos blew a 20-point lead to lose at Minnesota

A defensive penalty on third-and-10. A questionable third-and-1 play call. A missed field goal. Multiple blown assignments. And iffy time management.

That was the Broncos’ second half in summation as they turned a 20-0 lead into a 27-23 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

A signature road win over an expected playoff team instead turned into the biggest blown halftime lead in team history.

“As well as they played in the second half, we helped them some,” coach Vic Fangio said Monday.

Make that helped them a lot.

The meltdown started after the Broncos took a 23-7 lead with 4:23 left in the third quarter.
