Albert Okwuegbunam looking like a No. 1 tight end heading into Broncos’ season opener

Any doubts about Albert Okwuegbunam’s confidence coming off last year’s ACL injury dissipated into Mile High air at Empower Field last Saturday.

The second-year Broncos tight end grabbed his third catch of the evening, turned upfield and attempted to hurdle two defenders. He didn’t quite clear them, but the 12-yard gain showed Denver’s backup to Noah Fant is 100% healthy heading into Week 1.

“The first two times I got tackled, they just dove at my legs, so I told myself, ‘The next time I catch the ball I’m jumping,’” Okwuegbunam said. “That’s what I did because I’m not thinking about (the knee) at all.
