Broncos Stifle Chargers, Pick Up 17-3 Road Win

The Denver Broncos have a three-game lead in the AFC West with four to play, moving to 10-2 with a 17-3 win over the cellar-dwelling San Diego Chargers (3-9). Here's some notes, quotes and observations from the game.

Notes:

Denver held the Chargers without a touchdown, marking the second straight game that the Bolts have been shut out at home on the touchdown ledger.

San Diego's home-field advantage was virtually nonexistent on Sunday. The crowd of 68,631 were clad in mostly Broncos orange, creating a mini Migh High atmosphere in Southern California.

Broncos linebacker Danny Trevathan provided the signature play of the game for Denver, taking a Philip Rivers interception 25 yards to the house.

Chargers rookie running back Melvin Gordon fumbled twice before being taken out of the game. He now has six fumbles on the season, four of those lost.

Quotes:

"We're gonna have to call on a lot of people down the stretch." -- Broncos coach Gary Kubiak's on team's rash of injuries.

"After Melvin Gordon put the second ball on the ground, I took him out." -- Chargers coach Mike McCoy

"We hung in there and found a way to win. That's what a good team does." -- Gary Kubiak

Observations:

The Broncos will turn back to Peyton Manning when he returns from a foot injury, but will it be a short leash. What happens if Peyton's interception problem compounds itself. Would Kubiak pull the trigger on bringing Osweiler back? We're unsure, but it'll be fascinating to watch.

Hailed by many as an "offensive genius" upon his hire in San Diego, Mike McCoy hasn't been able to solve the Bolts' offensive woes as of late -- especially on the ground. Now with the team of 3-9, Chargers fans are blowing up Twitter calling for Riley's job. We think he may be safe for the offseason, but we could be wrong if San Diego adds to its stretch of seven losses in eight games.
