Ben Olsen’s starting lineup for D.C. United’s next-to-last preseason match Wednesday was a foreshadowing of his personnel choices for the first serious match of the year.
Six days ahead of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal first leg against Mexico’s Queretaro, Olsen reassembled the 2015 backline and summoned several experienced players for the majority of a 1-1 draw against the Philadelphia Union at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Unlike the previous three tests, he did not make wholesale changes until the last 10 minutes.
Afterward, Olsen suggested most, if not all, of Wednesday’s starters would appear in the lineup next week.
