Panama doesn’t have history (no World Cup appearances, no Gold Cup titles), youth (five players 34 or over), or players in high-level leagues (two in Colombia, two in Mexico, none in Europe), but it gets results. Last summer it was a whistle away from the Gold Cup final, only to have the referee award Mexico a game-tying penalty in a 10th minute of added time; another awarded penalty cost Panama the game in the subsequent extra session.
